Highway and Street Design

Our team of experts has direct national research, guidebook and manual development, construction plan specification, and cost estimating experience. This experience includes research documents that contribute to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets and several design manuals for state departments of transportation. This experience helps our clients better understand the transportation-related elements of their cases. Our staff have served as expert witnesses on thousands of cases related to transportation forensic engineering in the United States.

In addition, the Kittelson LLC team has considerable experience in the preparation of plans and specifications for highway construction, traffic signal installations, and traffic signal systems. Our staff are knowledgeable about the history of highway design over the last 100 years and routinely assess whether a given facility design conforms with the applicable standard of care/state-of-the-practice at the time it was created. Our team also has experience with roadside design issues, including application of clear zones and appropriate installation of roadside barriers and attenuation devices.
