All of us at Kittelson LLC and Kittelson & Associates are excited to welcome Dr. Martin Pietrucha to our forensic transportation engineering team and firmwide research practice.
Martin has more than forty years’ experience in transportation engineering and a deep network of connections across the industry. Many colleagues will likely associate Martin with Pennsylvania State University, where he holds the rank of emeritus professor with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and served as director of The Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute. While in this role, he taught courses in transportation engineering, transportation planning, human factors engineering, alternative transportation strategies, transportation policy, funding, and finance, and worked with and mentored hundreds of students, including many current Kittelson employees.
Martin’s resume is packed with a breadth and depth of experience—the kind that brings immense value to project teams and helps them solve intractable problems. Prior to his tenure at Penn State, he worked in the private sector of transportation for 13 years, during which time he developed an interest in research. Martin has led groundbreaking research on human factors related to transportation safety and operations, including intersection sight distance, street and highway guide signs, commercial signage in roadways, and user perceptions of various transportation system elements.
Martin will be applying his expertise in human factors, work zones, traffic control, signing, and transportation engineering to expand the suite of services at Kittelson LLC. Martin joins a growing group of Kittelson staff who serve as experts on Kittelson LLC cases, providing research, technical analyses, expert witness testimony, and declarations as part of clients’ motions before the court.
“Martin will add a unique set of skills to our national research practice and provide another recognized industry expert to our growing forensic engineering team in the Northeast,” says Marc Butorac, who serves as President of Kittelson LLC and National Director of Business Development for Kittelson & Associates.
As he ventures into the next chapter of his career, Martin looks forward to being part of a firm to which he’s been connected for decades.
“I’ve watched Kittelson’s growth over the years, and am now very happy to be a part of the story,” says Martin. “There are a small handful of companies in this industry where you say, ‘That place is special.’ After recommending Kittelson to my students for years, I’m ready to be part of it myself.”
